Tame Impala – Currents
Those waiting for another “Elephant” and more psychedelic rock from Kevin Parker will be bitterly disappointed: Tame Impala changed style completely on Currents. Mr Parker apparently spent a lot more time with Mark Ronson than we thought: this new album is clearly pop music, tainted by psychedelia (whatever that means). Kevin is flirting with disco at times, vocoder and Bee-Gees voice included. Perfectionist Parker is at work with the production, which reminded me of the latest Daft Punk record in its perfect sound. Even if early fans of rocky songs from Lonerism and Innerspeaker will certainly be looking elsewhere with the typical sound mixture of guitars and bass now completely gone, Currents is still a good album, full of weird pop melodies that only Parker could produce.
