Nick Mulvey – First Mind

One of the nicest albums of 2014 is also the first one of a young London man. Sweet folk music with African sounds which will have a magical power on you.

Nick Mulvey is a member of the modern jazz band Portico Quartet. He recently decided to start a solo career as well: after a few singles his first album First Mind was out in 2014, and it’s a magnificent folk album with small touches of World Music. Sometimes groovy, sometimes rather calm, his music is a mixture of his love for African sounds (which he studied at London University), and his songwriter’s skills, making me think of Nick Drake and Tom Waits. He was already rewarded with a Mercury prize in 2014 (a ceremony from which he is now a regular, as he already was nominated with the Portico Quartet back in 2008). This career debut couldn’t be better and I simply cannot wait for his next productions!
