NOTE
Lee Fields & The Expressions - Emma Jean

Among my favorite current Soul Singers are Sharon Jones and her Dap-Kings, Charles Bradley and Lee Fields. It seems as if Lee has always been around: among our favorite albums are 1999 Let’s Get a Groove On, My World 10 years later, and Faithful Man in 2012. Excellence seems to be continuous and natural to the man. Guess what, Emma Jean is perhaps even better than his last records. It blends everything Lee is capable of, from rhythmic and ultra groovy Soul (“Talk to Somebody”) to superb ballads (“Eye to Eye”). The man even covers JJ Cale successfully and pays a magnificent tribute to the Oklahoma genius who sadly passed away last year. Where you could feel other albums going a bit slow at times, Emma Jean simply brings you 43 minutes of perfect Soul music.
