Antemasque – Antemasque
You can’t separate these two guys. After At The Drive-In and Mars Volta, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala have a new project, Antemasque. This group had a lot of attention, when we learned the participation of Flea (RHCP) and Dave Ellitch (former Mars Volta) on some songs. But the album is still a work of this duo. The first EP was also a hit, with 4 very effective and old school songs.
The sound is different from the complex compositions of Mars Volta, and the duo has created here something simpler, more immediate. The album starts strongly with “4AM” and “I Got No Remorse”, both songs with a very high rhythm.
On “Momento Mori”, we can hear some sounds from Volta, with delight. “Drown All Your Witches” is here to calm everyone down before the final, which promises to be explosive. “Providence” really reminds us why we love this duo, and Mars Volta! Intense, powerful, this song is one of the successes of the album.
“People Forget” and “Rome Armed To The Teeth” continue on the rhythm chosen at the beginning of the album, closing a successful album.
Good news, the duo still has things to offer, and this album is highly recommended (plus all they have done before)!
